Channel Island certs are very useful. A death certificate of a very elderly person will give details of their parents. A wife or mother will also show her maiden name. But they don't show who registered the event.

I like the 1911 Channel island census too - as they show the fathers place of birth - very useful in working backwards.

Certificates are £7 if you know the references,from;
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
If you are worried that the birth is in the wrong quarter,remember that a mother is allowed up to 6 weeks to register the birth.

I am doing my family tree and have done quite well on my mothers side going back to 1806 but are getting stuck with my dad. I know he died in 1983 in Bristol and know the date and place of my parents marriage but when it comes to his birth I have found out roughly what it could be (more than likely) but I would like to be sure.
Does anyone know if DOB is detailed on a marriage cert & if so how do I go about buying a copy? I am now in the Channel Islands so can not go to the records office where it would be (Bristol) Does anyone also know if parents of the married couple are detailed on the marriage cert?
Any help would be gratefully recieved.
Thanks
Terry
