Thanks both its been a help. I pesonnally find the IGI a bit lacking especially for Cumbria, not bad for Durham though. I will certainly try the churches concerned and the records office while i'm there also.

Khrissy...It will all depend on whether or not the PP of the Church in question has deposited the Records...It is probably best to check with the Church before you go to the Records Office.

I know at the Lancashire records office there are Roman Catholic church records held on microfilm and microfiche so I would think you stand a good chance of finding something.

I found the IGI can be very patchy to totally lacking when it comes to Catholic records, so I think you'd have more luck with the records office.

I'm planning a trip to the local records office and library, can anyone tell me if there would be a record of Roman Catholic Baptisms held at either one or will i need to go direct to the church itself? None found on IGI for older family now looking for 1920's upwards!
