Blimey I Cynthia you have been a busy beaver!

I received one of you PM's too. I was slightly aggreaved at first but then realised you were only trying to help.

What you have taught me is to actually put in my post that I will not be able to reply for a while due to other committments, but I will be back on to view any answers at a later date.

May I also send out a plea to all you kind hearted volunteers who spend their time answering queries. DONT DELETE your responses. If the postee has not replied or even said thank you someone else may benefit from your replies who does not like to ask questions on the boards.

Hi Brinsley, I was actually thinking of the people who do look ups who sometimes delete what they have found when no acknowledgment is made of their efforts.

This has been mentioned quite a lot recently on various threads.

I just don't want people to miss out on any info because I know how much I have valued what people have found for me in the past.

I understand what you say about 24-48 hours respite but I have noticed how aggravated some researchers become in much less time than that.

Hey ho. Only trying to help. Fortunately I have pages of pm's from people who have been truly grateful to find their threads again so I guess it's all worth it in the long run. Regards.

I think if you find it necessary to do a follow up PM, you need to leave at least 24, or better still 48 hours, if there is no response on the message board.

Deletions can only be made by the poster, or by GR if there has been a complaint about the content of the posting, so I can't see the relevance of saying "Sometimes information is deleted if there has not been a response within a certain length of time."

Hi Jim, not necessarily. I have an early number but didn't start using the boards properly for a very long time after I first joined. Got told off by someone for not posting properly about 16 months ago and so learned my lesson the hard way!

Claire, golly I didn't think I was that quick! Was it me? I usually make sure there have been a few hours delay unless there are mega mega replies which look really interesting for the poster.

Hello,

I had a similar thing happen last week...however it had only been about 20 mins since i put the post up! I do appreciate help; however I work full time and often post in my lunch hour so I can't always get back to my post (which i bookmark) every ten mins. I think people need to appericate that not everyone can check back so quickly. BUT I DO APPRECIATE help :o)

I would have been peeved as well but I would probable have said thanks.
I think any member with number lower than 9 million probably knows the score.

Hi Cynthia,

wasn't meaning to have a go, but maybe it looked like that, so sorry if it did.

As I said I've not posted on this board for ages, things at the moment mean my research has ground to a bit of a halt. I was a regular poster/contributor many years ago, I have been a member for over 6 years and do appreciate the help I have received.

I have noticed there is an increase in removing messages, although not so much on here.

Once again my apologies if you felt my message was out of order, not having a good day so maybe I shouldn't have posted.

Regards Rosalind

Oh dear.

Up until today, folk have been very happy to have help finding their messages again - the majority of folk thought they would get an email alert from GR.

I thought I was helping because I didn't want them to miss out on the info found for them and so many have thanked me for this advice. I have enjoyed helping in this way.

The volunteers on here can be very quick in responding to messages - sometimes within minutes and, quite often, they ask questions back, so my advice has been to stay near your computer for a while after posting in case this happens. There are several thread s advocating this see below.

Sometimes information is deleted if there has not been a response within a certain length of time.

Apologies Rosalind, I was only trying to help.

You do have a point, but I know Cynthia has contacted people before meaning only to help out. There have been a lot of problems with new folks not knowing how to reply.
I do think we need to be a bit more patient though, you are correct.

I've not posted on the Tips Board for a long time, until yesterday. I then find a message in my inbox from the above. Telling me that I hadn't answered any of the replies, it had only been a day. And that I also should stay by my computer as replies could happen quickly.
Is this a GR thing, as I've never come across it before. I day to pass before I replied, I didn't think was unacceptable and I do have a life away from my computer.
