As Gwyn says, you need to work backwards from what you know. Do you have your parents birth dates or marriage dates for the certificates? A birth cert will give both parents names and dads occupation plus an address for the birth. The marriage cert will give the fathers' names and occupations.

Ill bump up the Tips for New Members for you to read through.

Unless you are completely estranged from your family, of course, it will be very possible :)

Welcome.
Start with what you know and work back.
Don't post names on here about living people without their permission.
Your parent's birth certificate should name their parents or your parents' marriage certificate should name their fathers.

If you are searching England and Wales, I don't mind helping to look at records online.

Can anyone help me im new to the site but am searching to find out who my grandad is but have no idea how to do it or even if its possible as I have no name or anything so i doubt its possible but thought id ask for advice. Many thanks
