Unoccupied means nobody living there. Our poor rellies seem to move house frequently

Many thanks for looking it up for me, that was very kind of you, I did look at the enumerators descriptions and trawled 69 pages of register but could not find it.

If it says unoccupied does that mean no-one lived there or just they weren't in when they called ?

Regards
Sue

Once you have purchased credits and looked at a census return, you can also look at the enumerator's description of the location which might help

Sue,
I have looked at the Enumerators summary original page for Alma street and number 25 is listed as uninhabited.
(This was done free at National Archives, since i was there!)

If all else fails, and you really, really want to know, then the enumerators pages should help. However to get them you'll need to use credits to get a house that should be on the same run.
Obviously not a first choice course of action!

Also, bear in mind that a lot of streets have been renumbered over the years for various reasons. Might be worth trying to look at an old map in a local library - or ask someone to check for you.

That was also my thought, 1 to 21 was on the 1901 census and 23 on the 1911 but not number 25!"

It could be that No.25 wasn't built yet. I have come across something similar (although in another part of the country) where a street was half built and at the time of the 1911 census only some of the houses were actually occupied. Pam

I have been looking at the 1911 census at an address I have on a birth certificate and although I can find 23 Alma Street, Lower Bebington (Or New Ferry), Cheshire, I can't find 25 Alma Street!
Any ideas much approciated?
