If you know the name of his wife, then you can be a lot surer you've got his marr cert than you can of his b.cert.

Hi,

If you don't know his fathers name I would suggest you order his marriage certificate before his birth certificate as that should have his fathers name on it. You can then use the fathers name as a checking point when ordering the birth certificate.

Marriage cert would give the name & occupation of his father.

Birth cert would give the name of father and mother

Please can I have some advice on info on certificates I have come to a bit of a dead end with one of my relatives. I have his death details ( I know they are right because I remember him dying) I have found his dob from his death cert and then found his birth registration but I can't find him on 1901 or 1911 census or lets say I can't be sure it's him. I know he spent all his life in the same town but don't know his parents or siblings details.

So my question is if I were to order a certificate would his marriage cert of his birth cert be more useful on getting further back with his tree?

Thanks
Sarah
