There is a marriage on Ancestry
James E. Francis to Patricia Ryder in 1944 at West Ham.

I did start having a look for you but there are quite a few James Francis and during that period no dates of births show against the death details so you could not be sure which one was him except for perhaps his age at the time of death - perhaps he died soon after your grandmother making your Mum an orphan so that was why she went in a home.
What makes you think the death could be as late as 1958. Irene

Thank you Janet.

I wonder if anyone can advise me about the use of The Geneaologist website for death searches?

Best wishes

Hilary, I am pretty certain that looking through the records is the only way, unfortunately. However, it isn't quite as bad as you think once you get started!
I had to do thid for a few marriages before they got transcribed, and once I got used to it, it was all right. I imagine you know you can get a free 2-week membership to Ancestry?

Hi

I am trying to find the death of my grandad James Edward Francis who was born in Penzance in 1893 but moved to Forest Gate, Middlesex in the 1900s. He last appeared on my late mother's birth certifcate in 1929 and she was placed in an orphanage a few years later (no details held despite searching)

I don't know exactly when the death occured but it would have been sometime between 1933 and 1958. I have checked FreeBMD and it's not shown there. I understand that Ancestry records are available to search and although I am very willing to spend the time searching, it is an extremely slow process and Ancestry is not easy to search.

Please could someone recommend the best and easiest to use website after FreeBMD to conduct death searches as there must be something out there that is better than ancestry? I am of course willing to subscribe to a site but would prefer it to be on recommendation.

Thank you
Hilary
