Private adoption advice please

Hi there, can anyone help with any advice about trying to trace private adoption papers. I've discovered that my grandfather was adopted in 1903 in Scotland (born in Ireland). Adoptions only became a legal process in Scotland in 1930 but I know that the adoption took some legal form. I have a date where an agreement was drawn up between his natural mother and his adoptive parents. Obviously I would love to have a copy but the register office in Edinburgh doesn't keep that kind of information. I think there's a chance that the national archives has something and they are checking for me.

Could anyone else suggest anywhere that might keep the archive material of the solicitors involved? The firm still exists but they have no archive material from that far back. I'd be grateful for any suggestions on tracing this.

thanks for that Susan but I think it had all changed by the 60's - only becomes a court procedure as far as I'm aware in the 1930's in Scotland. Trying that route at the national archives now, they weren't quite sure if it ever did go before the sheriff court then but are now looking for me.
