The GRO actually have 4 charging scales

Standard Service

If you supply the certificate index reference, the certificate is sent within 4 working days. Without the reference, it is sent within 15 working days.

* full certificate, with index reference supplied - £7.00
* full certificate, without index reference supplied - £10.00

Priority Service

If you order by 4.00 pm, your certificate is sent the next working day.

* full certificate, with index reference supplied - £23.00
* full certificate, without index reference - £26.00

Ancestry act as a "broker", they would argue that they simplify the certificate ordering process by allowing you to search for the cert and then add to your basket, they obviously then charge a premium for this service. Remember they are a business and the aim of most businesses is to sell goods or services and make a profit.

It is slightly more time consuming to find the reference on Ancestry or freebmd and then go to the GRO site to order the cert, but you will save money.

Thanks

My brother mentioned he had been charged £20 for a marriage cert through Ancestry.........I thought this was odd because I had only last year been charged about £7, and it was when I went to purchase a death cert that I realized something was not right.

Thanks again
Kind Regards
Amanda

Hi
Could anybody confirm how much I should be charged if I order a death cert?

I have purchased Marriage certs before and they have been approx £5.50 to £7.50.............I went to order a death cert and I was informed £20.

Thanks in advance
