Hi Susan,

When you say you want to do some family research in London what exactly do you mean?

There is the London Metropolitian Archives in Islington which cover information about the inner and outer London area, they have microfiche of parish records, electoral roles, maps, Kelly's directories and many other useful items.

There is also the Westminster Archives in Victoria which cover information on Westminster, and that side of London. If you google both these names I am sure they will give you information on what they have, opening times etc make sure you take proof of address and identification.

I have been to both and found them very useful.

It depends what you want to find out about! London Metropolitan Archives or Guildhall Library if you have London Ancestors, First Avenue House in Holborn to look for wills, Kew for 1911 census (you don't have to book an hour now - you can look for however long you like), or Army, Navy etc records.

And don't forget , if you already have some addresses from the cencus' go and have a look at the area...when I was in London I took a photo of the building where my Grandfather worked...so I have one photo taken of him outside it in around 1905 and one taken just over a hundred years later :)
