How would I go about locating a family members Death Cetificate who I think died abroad?

which country did they die in and when?


some information is available online depending on how long ago it was and where, otherwise you would have to contact the relevant registry office for that country.

If they were British citizens then it's worthwhile checking the overseas deaths held by the GRO. The overseas indexes are on FindMyPast and FamilyRelatives.
