Hi,

I can't answer if they wore their wedding ring like that............. but like many of us maybe she put weight on and couldn't have the ring size altered after the birth of her child???

I've just been given some old photos of family but with no names attached. On one there is a picture of a young woman nursing a new baby (from her dress c.1900s) She has what looks like a wedding ring hanging from a chain around her neck. I had a great uncle killed in France in 1916, his son was born six months later.

Does anyone know if widows wore their wedding rings in this way?

Shelagh.
