How do I find the military record of a soldier who was Honourably Discharged in 1916. All the lists seem to be of those killed in the war. Thanks, Brenda

I think I have found his pension records on Ancestry.

Was his father also called Henry? Of Newcastle on Tyne?

If the medal card that Maureen found belongs to your Henry then I have found his pension records on Ancestry.

As Annie says, his other records are not there but they have only got up to 'N' unless a few misfiled ones have slipped the net. Less than half these records survived the bombing and subsequent fires in the Second War.

The medal card for Henry shows he entlisted 22.10.14

Just to clarfify what Annie G has said. There are 2 series of WW1 service records - the "pension" records and the "service" records. The pension records for the whole alphabet are virtually complete on Ancestry - I think just the "missorts"are missing. The "service" records are only complete up to the letter N on Ancestry (and the missorts for the whole alphabet).

Therefore, the surviving service records for surnames O-Z still have to be added to Ancestry. This is a MUCH bigger series than the pensions records. It's not true to say that more names from the end of the alphabet have records missing - they are just not all on there yet!
