Hi Jan, have just read that Edward was a Parkhurst Boy.
see what you can find about them from your side...
he was put on board Ratcliffe at the Isle Of Wight with 26 other boys.
that is probably why there is not much about him in Tasmania, the Parkhurst boys were not looked upon as being convicts like the adults.
his occupation was brickmaker.
I am e-mailing you further info.
kind regards, Lorraine in sunny Mackay Qld.

G'day Jan,
I have found no reference for Edward Keynes in any of the Victorian BMDs and the same result for New South Wales. It is possible he went to SouthAustralia but I have no access to the BMDs for that state. I checked to see if he had left Australia but have not found any records as yet.
Cheers
Alex

I have an Edward Keynes who was a convict on the Ratcliffe.
He was 14 yrs old and transported for theft.
He left Spithead 19th July 1848 and arrived Hobart Town 11th Nov 1848.

Are there Australian Census which might list him to give me clues as to what happened to him.

The sentence details from Southampton quoted a 7 year term and a ticket of leave.

Any guidance would be appreciated

Thanks
