A relation of mine, Charles Middleton, (YOB 1842) appears on the 1871 Census living at 16 Foley Place, Worksop, but I can't for the life of me make out his birthplace. The transcription on the 1881 at FMP says 'Yorkshire Scriva', and the transcription for this census says Thrope Salvin, Yorkshire, (looking at Wikipedia I found a Thorpe Salvin near Rotherham) but I can't get that from looking at the actual image. Plus when I search FreeBMD, I can't find any births in 1842 in that area - I'm stuck :(

Think this is sorted now folks, obviously will have to wait to get the cert to confirm, but someone on another board has come up with Scriven on Knaresborough, which would fit with the reg district of Pontefract which was one of the options.
