Thanks apparently he never got divorced because the Pension Office got in touch with his "ex-wife" to find out where to pay his pension.

if its possible he got divorced in the 1920s/1930s I think you might find this on the national archives website, put in J77 as the ref

if you can find a divorce then you may be able to find a subsequent marriage?

Thanks for the info.

I have his marriage details and also two of his childrens names - unfortunately now deceased. He married in 1922 left his wife after 1925 (as I say was on that Electoral Roll) Have checked with the library and unfortunately they are not prepared to go forwards by more than a couple of look-ups (if that makes sense.

No place of birth for him and only a year ascertained from marriage cert - if he was telling the truth!.

Thanks anyway

One possible way to get an idea of your lost relatives whereabouts is to check for a possible marriage. Ancestry now have all marriages up to 2005 indexed. If you find a likely marriage check for the location and the surname of the person he married. Then check for births of your lost relatives surname where the mothers surname matches the name of the person they married. All births up to 2005 have been indexed on Ancestry too.

This would give you probable locations to look. A lot depends on your relatives surname. If it's something like Smith it could be difficult.

Any advise on how to do this other than the Electoral Rolls as these are only searchable by address I believe.

I cannot find a relative born in 1900 people on this site have helped in the past.

My thoughts are that if I can go forward then perhaps I can then start working back..........

I have had passenger lists checked for emigration to NZ. I have the Electoral Rolls for 1925 and pinpointed him.

Any ideas as to where to go. I will not post the info as I am just trying to get some ideas?

Thanks
