I wonder what will happen when findmypast and Genes Reuntied belong to the same company??

The company that publishes Beano comic own findmypast .................... and they have just bought the Friends Reunited group which owns this site (GR)

I have used them all. Find my past has a few other things to search, but Ancestry now has most main research resources. They are sometimes a bit difficult to find, and you might need to consider something other than the basic subscription in due course. But if you are fairly new to this hobby/nightmare, Ancestry is probably your best bet. Get your family to buy you a subscription as a birthday present.

Don't forget to use Freebmd, lan-opc (and others), cheshirebmd (also now Lancashire, Yorkshire, Staffordshire, North Wales and some others).

Happy hunting.

Ancestry is one of the best sites, it is quite expensive at about £102 for the year now but you can pay quarterly or monthly I think. It has loads of information.

Ancestry seems to be the site of choice for most people. Why not try the site for 14 days? They offer a free trial.

I have a yearly subscription to FindmyPast, although not all the census are complete.

Hi,

Can anyone tell me the most cost effective way of searching, I seem to keep getting swindled.

I currently use findmy past using credits which is good but expensive, I have recently signed up to Geneology site £4.95 quarterly with 170 credits only to find I can't even find people I have already found on census's on ther sites already!!!!! not happy..

I seem to be spending a fortune...any tips...alison
