Yes, we have found a few possibles. If only we had asked these questions when the older family members were still alive.

Rose, I think you might have found the answer. We worked out from his date of death and the age on his headstone that he was born in 1884. But there was always some uncertainty in the family as to his true age, as well as where he was actually born. So we have really only looked at the James Taylor's born in 1884. Soon after his marriage in 1912 he moved to Enfield Middlesex which comes within the Edmonton area. As far as we know he wasn't in WW1, although we don't know why as he was only in his early 30's. His fathers name was William and he was listed as a labourer on the marriage certificate in 1912. According to a family story James enlisted in the army as a boy and lied about his age to get in. So this may be where the uncertainty about his age started. I guess this would have been around 1898 or so. Also, he was supposed to have been in India with the army.
I'll start searching this new line and let you know how I get on.

Thank You

Marianne

The address he married from was 8 Webster Road, Bermondsey in 1912, which was the same address as my grandmother.
In the 1911 census only my grandmothers parents were listed at this address. His fathers occupation was labourer.

Hi Rose, No, he married in 1912. We think he was born in either Bermondsey, Surrey or possibly somewhere in Kent. Both the witnesses were from my grandmothers side. His occupation in 1912 was shipping clerk. Prior to that we don't know. His name was James Taylor, and there are a few possibilities in the 1911 census, but as we are uncertain of his birthplace we don't want to start paying for lots of birth certificates.

Have you found him in 1891 and 1901 with his wife?

That should give his place of birth which would help track him down with his parents in the earlier censuses.

Was he married by the time of the 1911 census? Have you looked for him there to see where he was born?

Occupations and witnesses on the marriage cert. might help.

Can you list his details?

I have my grandfathers wedding and death certificates, which indicate he was born in 1884. Both he and his father have fairly common names making it difficult to identify them from census records. Is there any way of finding his actual date of birth from any other source? I would be really grateful for ANY help
