I think you have to show Jesse and Josh are different people, or not, which means tracking them on the censuses 1881-1911.

I think I may well have to purchase some credits on 1911 census, can someone tell me how much I have to spend to buy a resonable amount.

Hi Lindsey

Yes this is the family, and I think it is my friend who has it wrong. He has given me the name of his mother and the names of his aunts and uncles and they correspond with the 1911 info you have given me.

I will contact him and see what he has to say. I am very grateful for your help Lindsey, you are a star.

have you found them on the 1911 census.
It may be that William Jesse was called Josiah on a day to day basis so he married in that name.I have instances of records being in the name they were know by rather than the registered name.
If you know William Jesse fathes name you could use that as a checking point if you order the marriage cert

Hi

This is a free search from the 1911 census, do any of these names ring true with your friend???

HOUSEHOLD HARBOTT ALBERT M 1911 2 MONTHS Poplar London
HOUSEHOLD HARBOTT HARRY M 1909 2 Poplar London
HOUSEHOLD HARBOTT JOSHIA M 1879 32 Poplar London
HOUSEHOLD HARBOTT JOSHIA M 1906 5 Poplar London
HOUSEHOLD HARBOTT SUSAN F 1880 31 Poplar London
HOUSEHOLD HARBOTT SUSAN F 1907 4 Poplar London

Names did tend to change slightly, I've often seen it were the son takes on his fathers name......... even when it was nothing like his birth name.

I am doing some research for an elderly friend and have found good info for his maternal and paternal lines prior to the marriage I am having problems with.

He is insistant that his grandfather was WILLIAM JESSE HARBOTT who was born in Stratford, London in 1875. I have found this birth.

I

His grandmother was SUSANNAH HOSKIN born in Limehouse in 1880. I have found this birth.

I have found the birth of their first child also called WILLIAM JESSE who was born in Poplar in 1905.
I
I took the marriage of William and Susannah to be a year or so prior to 1905 and could only find the following.

SUSANNAH HOSKIN TO JOSIAH HARBOTT in Poplar AMJ quarter of 1903.

I can find no Josiah in the Harbott family and my friend does not remember a Josiah. With both names being out of the ordinary, it is odd that two such couples should marry in the right area in the right year.

Any suggestions warmly received

Kathlyn
