Are you sure he was christened at West Bromwich? This is the only family I can see with the details you give (on the IGI):-

I am looking for Joseph Firkins christened in west bromwich staffs in 1831. His parents were Joseph and Sarah. I am trying to find them on the 1841 census, but the prob I have is they may be canal people and look as I might I cannot find them
