I have a relative who was born in 1900 who I believe was adopted about 1901. I was wondering if it is likely that a note would be put on the birth record of this child saying he was adopted and giving the name of the adoptive parents.

If they were officially adopted then the original birth certificate will have 'adopted' written in the margin, no other information as to new parents etc will be on there.

Official adoptions didnt start til 1927 so any adoption pror to then would be private between parties.

Thanks Elizabeth and Shirley for your replies. I guess I will have to order the birth cert and hope something is on there.
