Thanks everyone, I must have the right death. He was a Jewellers Traveller so quite likely to have died away from home. He was born 1861Warwickshire. I know that you cant always trust the age put on the records. I now feel confident enough to send for a death certificate.

I believe the death has to be registered in the registration district in which it occurred.

My 2xgt grandmother lived in Marylebone but I found her death in Uxbridge registration district - she died in the Middlesex Lunatic Asylum!!

Registering a Death. Can one of you experts please help me?
I have been trying to find the death record for one of my g g`fathers, Hugh Charles Godby. He died sometime between 1901 (he is in the census) and July 1914 ( on my grans m. cert as “deceased” I can`t find any Hughs, only a Charles H Godby age 72 (right age0 Chard 5c 509 J -M 1913. I`m sure its him but this is not his home town as he lived in Birmingham. Do you, or did you, have to register a death where someone dies or can you register it “at home”?
Grateful for any help on this. David.
