Thanks Kath.
I have found the phone number for the County Records Office and I will ring them tomorrow and see if they can help me.

I would ring the County Records Office for the area you need and ask them if they have the records there. If they do then I'm sure you would be able to look at them there.

Thanks for the reply. The order was made approx 50 yrs ago!! I have contacted the local County Courts but they informed me that they have no facilities for people to go and look at their records.
The problem being, is I am not sure if this is where the order was made.
I was in care at the time and when I requested my files, the court name was blanked out even though it stated my fathers name. I wrote asking for it to be checked at the local court but to no avail. I now want to check in the city next to where I lived
I now have to apply again for certain parts of my file and wait to see if they will leave the court name in this time.

It depends on how long ago the maintenance order was issued. My grandfather left my grandmother with three children and she took him to court and was granted maintenance. This was done in a Magistrate's Court in the 1920's. We were told that you could look at the Magistrate's Court Record Books as long as they were more than 30 years old. (We did this at the local archives for the area).

We found the case in the Record Books and found out how much maintenance was granted and how often it had to be paid and also the name of the policeman who had to serve the order on my grandfather.
