Hi I wonder if anyone could tell me any good websites to go to for information regarding BMD and census information for people born in Scotland, preferrably where you might be able to get the information for free.

Ah well worth a try, can I be cheeky and pick your brains - I have found one of my relations Agnes Huskie born approx 1834 in Scotland, however Huskie appears to be her married name and on the 1861 census (the only one I can find her on) she is a widow - any ideas how I might be able to find out her maiden name?

She is also on the 1881 census and appears to have married Alexander McLean (but think it should be McLeod as per marriage register).

Any ideas would be appreciated

She is on the 1871 Census as Agnes Huskie - as a Widow (but as a lodger) but think that she is the mum to the children listed, ie: John, Janet, James, Thomas, Agnes and Emmanuel - has her born approx 1834 and in Scotland - but the 1871 census confs that she was born in Edinburgh and she is on there as Agnes McLean.

John Emmanuel Huskie was born in London in 1851. You could buy his birth cert and that would give Agnes' maiden name.

Thanks for looking for me - think that marriage could be good - as Spalding and Emmanuel follow through on the names in that family - her son is called James Spalding Huskie and other son is called Emmanuel
