(Sic) on Death Certificate

It usually means that the spelling is wrong or the name is known to be wrong but they have copied what was actually written.

The definition from Google:-

Note: This word is sometimes inserted in a quotation [sic], to call attention to the fact that some remarkable or inaccurate expression, misspelling, or the like, is literally reproduced.

Hi,

I recently purchased a death certificate and next to one of the witnesses's name there was the word '(sic)'.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this means?

Thanks very much.

Kind Regards,

Sarah
