Thanks - Thurza was a tailoress in 1901. Can't seem to find any connection with the Fenn family at the moment, but will have a look.
They make it look so easy on 'who do you think you are ' ! - I guess the huge team of researchers helps !

Think it might be very difficult, Sarah. What was Thurza's occupation in 1901 and have you found any connection with the Fenn family with whom she was lodging? Perhaps they introduced her to George.

Good luck, any way.

Jeanette, thanks for your help.
I have got the later information about her. e.g marriage & subsequent children. It is the earlier gaps I am unsure of.
Actually the marriage opens up more questions, as the man she married was from a fairly middle class background, whereas she is definately working class. An unsual union in those days.
Although I have traced Thurza in 1901 I can find no trace of her stepfather, James Shaddick b 1862 or her half sister Marion Shaddick b 1889.
I know that James died of TB in 1909 in the Easville Workhouse Bristol & that Marion reappears on the 1911 census living with Thurza & William Ogborne.
I really want to try & find out what happened between 1891 when Louisa Shaddick died & 1905 when Thurza married.
Thanks or any ideas !

On free bmd there is a marriage for a Thurza Davis to William George Ogborne in Bristol a/m/j 1905 ref 6a 21.

Louisa Shaddick's death was registered o/n/d 1891 in Bristol ref 6a 41.

You probably have this information on re-reading your original post.

I am trying to find out more information about my Great Grandmother Thurza Davis, B 25/9/1883 in St Peters Workshouse, Bristol.
She is listed on all the census records (under various spellings of her name!), but I am wondering if there is anywhere else to find out further information. I believe her mother Louisa Davis (later Shaddick) died shortly after the 1891 census, when Thurza was only 8. Thurza appears on the 1901 census, with the surname Shaddick as a boarder with the Fenn family in Eastville, Bristol. I am really interested in what happedned to her in the intervening years - anyone got any ideas where to look ? School records ? Thanks
