If they survived into their 40s, then you can get their d.rego's which will give parents names - assuming the informant knew them.

Hi there thanks very much for your replies i am currently investigating a bit more from your advice i have finally found a census from 1841 and i am going from there. Cheers

Weren't there Scottish censuses from 1841 onwards?

If you can find the happy couple in the 1841 or 1851 that should give you some idea of where they were born.

Bear in mind that they may not have been born in the parish in which they married.

Hi can someone point me in the right direction. I have found a required marriage certificate in 1837 Scotland (not required to be registered in Scotland until 1855) it does not state the parents names so i have no way of knowing which birth certificate is correct for c1815 i dont believe there were any census records then either. Where do i go from here. Hope you can help
