marriage details -how to find?

It's not unusual when the quarter is incompletely transcribed. E.g., take 1920q2 which is only transcribed up to
Marriages Jun 1920 (52%)
---------------------------------------------
Lee Edwin Thridgould Bethnal G. 1c 440

Note the "(52%)" showing how much of this quarter is transcribed - naturally there's no Thridgould's.

You can search images to find the entry on p325 of the index to see Edwin marr'd Ethel L Thridgould
http://images.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/choose.pl

Before 1916, FreeBMD has pretty much transcribed the whole GRO index - the only deficient quarters are:
Marriages Dec 1843 (97%)
Marriages Mar 1851 (97%)
Marriages Jun 1887 (47%)
Marriages Mar 1888 (96%)
Ten months ago, there were 13 deficient quarters.

From 1916 on, one can search Ancestry. If one hasn't got a sub, then one can only see incomplete info.
E.g., a search for a 1920 Thridgould-Lee marr turns up:
Ethel L Thridgould Lee mm year city Middlesex
If you click on the shopping basket, you'll see the 1920 Bethnal Green 1c 440, but not the quarter, nor the spose details.
Hovering over the view images link shows an URL which contains the string pointing to the GRO index image:
iid%3dons_m19202az-1525 or iid=ons_m19202az-1525
From the m19202, we can recognize it's the 1920 quarter 2 marr index.
For the spouse details, you'ld have to look up a 1920 Lee-Thridgould marr.

I know it's much more satisfying to do stuff yourself, but if you are really up against it put details on here and folks will try to help.
I assume birth is from Sept 1837 onwards?
One tip - assume there are mis-transcriptions! I have found the "phonetic search" option on freebmd very useful. And don't be too precise with the place or date, many couples got married after the births of their children - if at all!

Yes, do keep looking, as records are being transcribed constantly, and added to their site. Just imagine that sense of achievement when you do finally find them! Good luck, happy hunting!

thank you for taking the time to reply to my message. I have tried bmd before with little luck but will keep trying.
have also tried familysearch, but apparently my grandfather doesn't exist according to them!!
if it was too easy there would be no sense of achievement i suppose!!
thanks again

Depends when the marriage took place.
Before about 1925/30ish best place to try is freebmd. If you have both names and they match exactly, you might be in luck! You should try to give a rough timespan to save too much time.
After this most people use ancestry I think. It searches in a similar way, and you can usually find the spouse's name by clicking on "find spouse" option whe you have found the record.

could anyone please give me any tips on how to search for marriage info, especially as I have both names and the area, but not the date?
do i just have to trawl through the records one by one?
also searched for my parents marriage record and it would only come up using my mothers name, not my fathers? is that usual?
any help greatly appreciated.
many thanks :-)
