how do i locate medals

my grandad was awarded medals while in the army. i do not have his army number how do i find out what medals he got his name is leslie hickmott irthday was july 31st 1931 but he lied about his age so he could get in army at 15 after leaving childrens home. he was in hong kong when got bravery award. any tips!

Without his army number or at least the regiment he was in it will be difficult to find this information. Do either of your parents know this information? Do you have any cousins who might have inherited his medals (that's if your Grandad has died).

Is your Grandma still alive? If so she could apply for your Grandad's army records. If not one of your parent's could (the one who is his child).

It will cost £30 for his records but if his widow applies for them there is no charge.

They usually need name, army number and regiment but it might be work phoning them to see if they could locate the records for you.
