Was the marriage in September q 1922?
If so the Grooms name is spelt Cavanagh on FreeBMD (John & Florence Knight)

Eric is spelt Cavanagh on Ancestry,

If you have the GRO ref, you do not need the mothers maiden name, but you could put it as a checking point. If incorrect the GRO will refund £4 of the £7 cost for the search.

Do you mean that there are registrations using the 2 spellings, ...or rather than she is sometimes seen with different spelling, - on census perhaps?

No matter whether you know her name to be spelt in a particular way, it is how it is recorded on the GRO registration, that you must use for ordering.

Is there a telephone number that i can ring to obtain a birth certificate for a relative. I have two spellings for the mother, so would be better to ring. Can anyone help.
