I was wondering is there any websites where can you can view the original details on the 1911 census for free and only pay if you decide to print off a copy of the page in question

Some library authorties do have a free version of the 1911 census .In Manchester central Library you can use it for 40mins,Not sure which other authorities have access.

Thanks for that information ,was hoping I could view online for free.We have one of the regional centres near me where you can view the census for free ,only trouble is it only opens 1 saturday a month and unfortunately I'm at work monday to friday

You can work out some details free but not place of birth address etc.
Apart from Kew these are the places you can access 1911 free

Birmingham Archives & Heritage
Devon Record Office ( Exeter)
The National Library of Wales Aberystwyth)
Manchester Archives & Local Studies and Greater Manchester County Record Office ( sharing one institutional account)
Norfolk Record Office
Nottinghamshire Archives
Tyne & Wear Archives
