Where can I look?

My granddad ran away from home about 1892ish and joined a cargo ship in the Liverpool docks which was going to Australia, via India. He did return to the UK some two years later but left the ship in the Royal group of docks, London

He was about 18 and did not have a trade so would only have been a deck hand.

I have no idea of the name of the ship or the actual date granddad boarded her,.

Suggestions please as to where I can look

I wonder if the ship travelled the world and perhaps stopped off at New York? The Ellis Island site has lists of crew members as well as passengers. Records start in 1892. You have to register on the site but it's free.

Hello Soft As,
Do you have access to Immigration / Emigration Ship listings either on Ancestry or Findmypast. Otherwise I'm sure that if you give his full name, someone on the Boards would do a lookup for you.
