Had a bit of a google and it seems likely it was the South Lancs Regiment

What rank was he in 1911?

Have you tried the Great War Forum for help?

or the South Lancs Regiment Museum?

Thank you so very much for all your replies, I do think it wonderful that so many people are kind enough to take the time.
Not yet found a marriage for him, nothing other than the census records
first at home with his family then at Orford Barracks Warrington.
The information on the other family members so far have been mostly right. Thoes that have been checked out. It said about his brother Bert
married Bella Cuthbertson family was killed in Liverpool in a house in Anfield during the Blitz.
What I found was Bert (Albert) married Isabella Cuthbert 1909 wife Bella and some of his children were killed Sat 3rd May 1941 Liverpool (war graves site) .
Sister Margaret Mary 1894 married Pat Duggan emigrated to Australia and had two children a son and a daughter Bunty as yet not found .

Yes, I was wondering if the marriage or kids birth certs would reveal more under his occupation.

You might find his regimental number on the birth cert of one of the children born after he enlisted. My grandmother put my grandfather's number on every certificate she could!

If he wasn't an officer it's not odd that there aren't any records - lots didn't survive. Also not all R surnames are on Ancestry yet. If he was an officer then his records may well have survived, but with a fairly common name it would be useful to know which regiment he was in in order to find his records.

I think he may have served in the South Lancashire Reg they were in Warrington during that time.
Will try to find out more. Really odd though no records of him WW1 maybe I just missed it.

I don't know how long ago it was you looked at the Military part of the 1911 census but it is now fully available, unless of course there's a problem with that particular page.

Thank you it was a military census and when I looked it said information un available. I don't think he was married although his sister Margaret was also living at the barracks.
