Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for their replies.

I dont want to shred them ( and wont!) but I just felt that I wanted to pass them on to someone to help them. Will list them on the website and also try to track them down on here to see if they belong to someones else's tree!

I have several 1911 census images and transcriptions where I have found relatives living with other unrelated people as in a lodging house.

I have checked for the names on GR and have found some members have them on their tree.
They were very happy to receive the information because their rellies had moved out of the area and with common names you can pay for several transcriptions which are wrong.

I have also found when searching 1911 to use advanced search. I use name varients and if known from previous census I put the occupation.

Found my grandfather with an S on the end of his name living in the area he moved to after marriage.
He must have got a job there, moved back home to marry .Then went back for his job.
I was born there so I knew it was correct

I am sure you didn't really mean it about shredding them :)

Well you never know.... They may turn out to be some distant relation when you go back, or sideways, in your research!

I do have a few certs that I have bought that appear, at the moment, to have no connection to mine so I have added them to BMD search as suggested by Kathleen.

I have also had one success by contacting someone on here through the tree search (but have tried many with no response) and was able to give them a marriage certificate. It wasn't their direct line but did add meat to the bones of their tree.....So might be worth your while having a look.

I have done the same with one 1911 census return I bought that turned out to be the wrong one for my family....The man I contacted was overjoyed!!

You can put the details from the certificates on the www.BMDShare.com website. In fact you can put the details from any certificates you have on there

I have been sorting out my file of papers and certificates and have come across ones which were not my ancestors. Is there anything I can do with these - dont want to just bin or shred them.

Also have a couple of printed transcripts from 1911 census which again turned out not to be my ancestors. Shame to waste them!
