Thanks for such detailed information Jim. This tells me everything I had hoped to find out.
These 2 Ida`s are close relatives of my wife`s, but due to the nature of the baby Ida`s birth the family will not reveal anything.
It answers many questions for my wife. We still don`t know who the baby`s father is, although we do have a dob.
Thanks again. Very best wishes Robert

Thanks for your interest.
Passengers Ida Wilson Fisher & her baby daughter Ida Ruth Fisher left Johannesburg for uk in 1924/5 I think.
IWF was from Portsmouth & was working there as nursemaid to a naval officers family , IRF was born in Johannesburg in September 1923 & they settled in Portsmouth. Don`t have any other information. From your searching it seems the name of the ship I have is wrong.

Thanks again, Robert.

Castle Line website:

http://www.oceanlinermuseum.co.uk/History%20of%20UnionCastle%20Line.htm

That explains why the ships on Ancestry for 1923 from SA are Edinburgh Castle etc.

I think I'm giving Ancestry a headache! A name would be easier - it's coming up with ships in 1923 but can't see any by the name you've given.

Ancestry incoming passenger lists - 1878-1960. Not sure if it's searchable by boat - I'm off for a rummage.

Ancestry have some incoming passenger lists - not sure what year they go to. Do you have a name of a passenger?

Might also be worth googling - sometimes you find out odd bits of info on particular ships.

Where can I access the passenger list for the Castle line ship Capasan which left South Africa in 1923/4 for the UK? Only details I have.
Thanks Robert
