You need to check the parish records for Shakerstone to see if you can find a baptism for James to establish his parents names. If the records are not to be found online, you will probably need to pay a visit to Leicestershire Records Office.

You will need to access Parish Records which will probably be in Leicester Archives or possibly still in the church at Shakerstone.

If you'd asked last week we were moored there on our canal boat and as I usually do we went to look at the chuch and churchyard. it is a lovely village and has a nice pub right opposite the church.

You could try contacting one of the church wardens to see what records they have in the church.

have you looked at the International Genealogical Index on www.familysearch.org ...................... this is the Mormon site, and you have to be very careful to distinguish between EXTRACTED and SUBMITTED reocrds.

Extracted records have been taken from the actual parish records

Submitted records have been sent in by someone, usually a church member, and there is no backup documentation ...... take such records under advisement until you can prove or disprove them, don't add them to your tree until you can do so.

Is there an Online Parich Clerks (OPC) project for Leicestershire? Google to find out.

What about a Family History Society, either for Leicestershire or the local area?
