I have a question on Mariage Licences

It is also possible that they applied for a licence but didn't actually marry. Same can happen with banns - they are called, but the couple don't marry, or at least not till much later.

Was the bride from Hythe, ...maybe they married in her parish.

Haven't come across that situation myself but I can only think that perhaps - although he applied for a marriage licence - he didn't actually get one. (Perhaps because the bride was under 21 - maybe they couldn't do it by banns for that reason?) Perhaps no licence was granted and so the marriage couldn't take place

Interesting that her father's name was on there - did it say the father had given permission, or was it just a reference to the bride being Mary Smith, the daughter of John Smith etc?

I think I have found an application for a marriage licence by my Great Great Grandfather, Heapplied in Hythe, Kent in 1833. His bride to be was only 16 and her father's name is also on the application notice. However I can find no record of the marriage - is this unusual. I have searched.
