The marriage cert will also give his fathers occupation which will help you locate them

thanks for all your time and effort i am afraid my grandaughter who is staying weith us was a bit unwell last night so i dindnt get back to you. she is fine today -. i am confused with these births and marriages.
if alice barlow was born 1838 and married john barlow in 1854 then she would just have been 16 when she married and 40 when she had george ..that sounds right but george was born in 1878 his age is correct on the 1901/1911 census so on the 1881 census he couldnt have been 13 years !!! he could have been 3 years !
i will have to see if my friend wants to send off for georges marriage cert although that will only give his age and fathers name but i suppose that will help with a birth cert but so many george rowleys.my friend lives in usa so i had hoped i could try and sort it for her.
thanks for your help it is much apreciated and if anyone else wants to view their thoughts on this one i would be most grateful

according to staffordshire bmd site there are a few George Rowley born inTunstall in the approximate time scale

1867, 1871, 1878 - take your pick!!

I would guess that he is th 1867 one as all the family except Lizzie were born in Tunstall which could mean George is printed out of order

edit -I suppose the 1867 could be the George in your 1891 census as William should appear on the 1881 & Alic'es age is quite a few years out

sorry seem to be rambling now but hope you understand what I mean

John Rowley, head, 53, general labourer, born Staffs, Tunstall
Alice, wife, 43, born Staffs, Longport
John, son, 20, (something?) miner (unemployed), born Tunstall
Eliza, dau, 18, potter's assistant, born "
Alice, dau, 16, potter's assistant, born "
Edwin, son, 15, potter's assistant, born "
Louise , dau, 12, born "
Emma, dau, 10, born "
Lizzie, dau, 8, born Burslem
George, son, 13, born Tunstall
Selina Sherratt, visitor, 19, potter's assistant, born Burslem

Wonder why George is out of order here? Could it be he's 13 months? It doesn't say that.

sorry to be a nuisance but ancestry keeps crashing on me tonight i dont know why. i have found this Rowley family on the 1891 census and i am trying to find them on the 1881.
i have found a family with a mother alice Rowley and son george Rowley along with other siblings but the birthdate for george is about 10 years out and i cant view the image
also on this 1891 census it says alice has two sons george and william but when you look at william his last name is Ray not Rowley so he is the son of the lodger
thanks for any help
