To clarify, you use the husband'a name for him, but not for her.
For her you'ld use her maiden name, unless she were a widow, when you'ld use her dead husband's name.

She will actually sign the register with her current name (i.e., maiden or dead husband's) and this will probably be the last time she'll use it as her name.

You need to look for both - if you know the wife's maiden name, that is. Then if you find them both with the same volume and page number that's a reasonable indication that you've found the right one, though not conclusive proof; you can only get that from a certificate.

If im searching a marriage do i look for the husbands surname or the wifes maiden name?
