Hi,

I am having a significant lack of luck in finding death records of relatives, despite putting their details into the BMD website. Were people in the 1800's just remarkably slack at registering deaths, or am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated!

Kind regards,

Emma

are you putting in too much information?

are you spelling the name the same way as it is spelled in the records?

are you looking for deaths that occurred after July 1 1837, which is when registration started? You have to trawl parish records before that date.

Why don't you post some of the names and we'll have a look for you.

Were the deaths in England and Wales?

If not, they won't be on freebmd
