Tony you are a whizz ! Thank you so much for your efforts on this. A shame about the census records (alledgedly) being destroyed.

Not sure if the Marjorie Waters you have found could be the one I am looking for or not. I guess and E and an R could possibly be mistaken for eachother in handwriting.

I will go and check out the other site you mentioned now.

I looked for a death record for Frederick, but couldn't find anything. I believe it was the 'Ask a Librarian' service that gave me the details of his death in 1926 in Perth some time ago. Maybe they can tell me where to get a copy of the certificate so I can either prove or disprove if it was him or not.

Many thanks once again Tony.

Regards

Gerry

Hi Gerry.

Applications to applying for a Death Cert in W.A can be found here.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA..... B.D.M's
http://www.dotag.wa.gov.au/

"Click" on Births, Deaths & Marriages at bottom of page.
There are some BDM's on - line

See "Family History" ( left of page )

Re.... Census in Australia.
Unfortunatley Census are not available to the general public in Australia. Our census are destroyed ( so we are told ) after numeration, and after our government have extracted the data from them for stats
Only the last two recent census taken, Australians were given the option to Archive their census sheets.

Australia do however have Electorol Rolls, and you could also try "Ask a Librarian ยท Family History" service who will check Western Australia electorol rolls for you to see where he may have been living. ( link below )

Western Australia also has what is called " Reverse marriage index "...and can be found here.

http://www.wamarriage.info/

There is a marriage showing for a Marjorie WATERS in 1934 Perth....W.A......But it is... "Marjorie .R . Waters"

Gerry Report 2 Sep 2009 12:17

I have been trying for some years now to find out what happened to my Great Grandfather Frederick Waters b. 1856 Chatham Kent England, died 1926 Perth, Western Australia and his second wife Emma Waters (nee Hogben, nee Ralph) and their daughter Marjorie E Waters born 1911 Blean, Faversham, Kent. I know they sailed to Australia on board the Otranto, landing at Freemantle on 12/02/1912. I know that after a short time, Frederick and Emma separated and that's the last I can find of them. I have found that Frederick died in Perth in 1926, but I don't know what he was doing between the time he landed in 1912 and the time of his death or even how he died. I have no idea where he was living, or if he married again, if Marjorie stayed with him or if she went with her Mother Emma (more likely in those times). An old letter states that Emma remarried and moved to China, but I can't find any evidence of this as I simply don't know where to look. I'd love to get hold of a copy of my Grandfather's death certificate, but don't have the first clue on where to obtain it from. I'm hoping it might give me some clues as to who registered the death, if he was married, widowed, single etc and where he was living.

Although I am reasonably proficient with using Ancestry, free BMD, family search etc, I don't know where to look to find records for Australia and certainly not how to obtain a death certificate for someone who died in Perth.

Please.....is there anyone out there who has any ideas or suggestions on where I can find out more information, and especially where I can obtain his death certificate from?

Also, would there have been any census type records taken in the period 1912 - 1926?

Many, many, many thanks in advance!

Gerry
