I meant to say, I was in contact with a lady called Maureen today. She mentioned someone was helping her with a database of Roscommon names. I asked her to pass on my email address. Just mentioned this so you do not wonder about that in case this person is yourself!

Thanks for the reply. The family was RC; I am sure of that. Aunt Bridget married Tom Cunningham in the mid 1950's and they kept a small dairy farm at a litle place called 'Rushfields' near Creggs. I visited Creggs in 1971 at the time of my mother in law's death (Margaret Mulvihill).

John Mulvihill was born about 1882. From the 1911 census I have been able to ascertain that his parents were Thomas and Kate and he had 8 siblings, at least. Derryhippo is another name we remember. I am afraid we don't know very much. One of my mother in law's sisters (they were a family of girls) married a Mr Donlon. The Donlon's had 7 children. I remember John, Michael and Patrick who were born in the late '40's to mid '50's.

Regards

Janet.... For ref..The following may help...
Creggs Parish is the combination of two of the historical parishes of Elphin Diocese, Glinsk and Kilbegnet. Eighty percent of the parish is in County Galway with the remainder in County Roscommon. Prior to the Local Government Act of 1898, the entire parish was in Galway.

What other info.do you have and I will look at my data base....Where the family RC....?

Hello all
My mother in law was Margaret MULVIHILL, (1924-1971) daughter of John MULVIHILL and Kate KILKEENEY born in Roscommon in the tiny village of Creggs.

I am hoping to contact a cousin or someone familiar with the area as I am getting nowhere with this family!

I have found John M on the 1911 census of Ireland but no sign of Kate. I am not sure how she spelled her name as it is unclear on Margaret's birth certificate.
