Birth cert !!!

I am researching my mother in laws line and have come unstuck trying to find the birth of her mother.

MIL says that her mother was not registered and when she came to draw her OAPension, she had a problem proving her age.

Her name was Hannah Pettit, born in the Hackney/Stoke Newington area about 1898, I have found a HANNAH ELIZABETH PETTIT born in Hackney in 1898, but MIL is adament that her mother did not have a middle name. Could it be that 1) the birth cert was lost, and 2) Hannah did not like her middle name so just did not use it!!!

Thoughts please.

I would imagine that by 1898 births would have to have been registered it was complusary by 1875, maybe she just didn't use her middle name.

This looks like her in 1911

HOUSEHOLD PETTIT HANNAH F 1897 14 Hackney London

specified with Hannah in the household

HOUSEHOLD PETTIT ANNE F 1862 49 Hackney London
HOUSEHOLD PETTIT HENRY M 1894 17 Hackney London
HOUSEHOLD PETTIT HOLLY F 1902 9 Hackney London
HOUSEHOLD PETTIT JOHN M 1899 12 Hackney London
HOUSEHOLD PETTIT ROSY F 1905 6 Hackney London
HOUSEHOLD PETTIT WILLIAM M 1858 53 Hackney London

Hope this has helped ( a bit )

A possibility.........in 1891 but remember, Bethnall Green is where the birth was registered.

Name: Hannah Pettit
Year of Registration: 1891
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
District: Bethnal Green
County: Greater London, London, Middlesex
Volume: 1c

EDIT............Just seen Cassie's.........looks more likely but will leave mine in the pot as an option.

Hi Kathlyn,

Her birth could have gone unregistered, how about her marriage cert, what was her fathers name? If you have this at least it would be a start? Also the witnesses maybe family which would also help.
