how can you find a person with a common name. i am looking for a John Owen from Wales and it is proving quite hard.

I understand.
I have William Davies, Tom Jones, John Jenkins to name just a few.
What time frame are we talking about?
Do you know his occupation?
Any address?
Any family?

The more that you can fit him into a picture, the more chance of tracking him.
Marriage certificates give witness names which might help.

Add a few details here and people may come up with more help.

I know the feeling having Bowens and Williamses from Wales! Assuming you are working backwards, start with a definite such as a birth or marriage, look for siblings (sometimes you are blessed with an unusual name) , check names on marriage certs, including witnesses. And pray for luck. Or ask people on here for help!!
