Tox Report 9 Sep 2009 22:38

I and a college have transcribed weekly reports that appeared in the local newspaper during the first World War from Worksop and surrounding districts, I have the index to these soldiers and I will be happy enough to search for the men, here is an example of what was written: Corpl. J.A. Underwood, officially comes the news that another Worksop man belonging to the Leicestershire Regiment was killed in the attack at Delville Wood, the son of Mr and Mrs James Underwood who are now living in Northumberland. The deceased was living with his aunt and Uncle at Gateford Rd and was employed at Shireoaks and afterwards at Manton colliery, . He joined the army in September 1914, and was in France over a year without a break to come home. The news was conveyed in a letter from a man at the front. A photo is included in orriginal publication.
