This is the Java update that you need:

http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

Java needs to be updated on your PC from time to time as do several other programs (ie: Adobe Flash and Adobe Shockwave.)

At any rate, the above line will give you the update you need - no worry that you are getting a corrupted spyware/virus pop up trying to get you to download something harmful.

Hi Margaret,

Some programmes do ask to update from time to time, but I have never had Java Script ask to update.

I would be very cautious about it, as MGHS says it could be a Trojan trying to gain access.

If I get anything I am unsure of I post a question on my security providers “user forum” most have one, there’s always someone with a bit of computer savvy to advise and often someone else has already raised the issue.

Regards,
Mayfield.

According to my son Java script is a web programming language, which allows parts of some websites to work.

Java script will already be on your computer and it's only asking you to update to make sure you have the latest version so that you can see new websites which use this script.

You should just let it update when it asks.
