BIRTH ENTRY - MANCHESTER ENGLAND - HELP PLEASE!

Steve Report 1 Oct 2009 14:58

Hi Rose :-)

She was born in Ancoats - County of Manchester.

The mother of Sarah Deakin was Mary Ann Leach. I will look further into her birth details in the coming weeks.

Ellen Leach [nee: Heald] was born in 1832 Newton Heath - I will be seeking out the Microfiche throught the Church of latter Day Saints in the New Year for that.

All postings regarding my family tree on other Ancestry sites was taken from my research several years ago - Some of those postings are genuine connections - but one in particular is a distant relative who usurped all my many years of hard work - My tree on Ancestry.com has been private ever since [well over 2 years now]. But I have been rewriting it and updating research points - I am finally able to go back to this branch to gain varied BMD's to fill in many details lacking - When I make this new version of my Deakin/Walker + branch public on Ancestry.com I will be making sure in no uncertain terms that I will air what I think of this person [Oh it will be worded above board and as sweet as pie] - But after these last few years I will finally have a voice.....Oh and Yes I have asked her several times to remove it all - and even asked her via the phone - still ignoring me [really smarmy] - she is a name collector [with 10000's of unconnected family members in her tree]....so it will be open season believe me ;-)

Anyways - Enough of my rant.

Cheers - Steve.

Steve,

If you're talking about Ellen Leach then there won't be a birth cert. because she was born c1833.

Hi Quinsgran :-)

I have a fair amont of information on Sarah's Grandmother - except for her birth cert. I need to go over all the information I have before posting a message for help.....It is fairly involved - I will need to be very clear and at this stage I am going over all the information with a fine toothcomb.

Unless something gels in the meantime expect a sluething mystery in the coming weeks ;-)

Cheers - Steve.

Note: Big Ta for being an eager beaver Q ;-)

Hi Steve
What is the new request you need . What is Sarah's maternal grandmothers name and where was she born?
Have you found her on any census?

Hi Roy & Rose :-)

Just a follow up regarding my Grand Mothers [Sarah Walker] Birth Certficate.

It arrived in my hot little hand this morning. It is the correct cert I am very happy to say....she was entered in the March Quarter of 1907 - but born in the December of 1906.

Big thanks again for your help in my decision making ;-)

Cheers - Steve.

Note: I am having issues locating a birth cert for Sarah's Maternal Grand Mother and more than likely will be posting a message seeking help in the not to distant future [more sluething work methinks] :-)

Hi Roy & Rose :-)

Huge thankyou for your suggestions and help.

I concur Rose that the 1907 certificate is the one to order & yes - it might not have been Didsbury she was born....Albert may have just written all as Didsbury without being full on precise with the information. Roy I think the window of 6 weeks to register was enough to push her birth entry into 1907. Phew ;-) Will send of for the certificate this coming week and wait and see what turns up in my letterbox - Big Ta

Of to get something to eat.

Cheers - Steve.

I think I'd go for the 1907 Manchester one and just assume the 1911 census is wrong about her being born in Didsbury.

Another thing to consider, depending on circumstances people went to relatives to give birth in those days so your 1906/07 births could be correct.

Hi Rose :-)

Sarah's parents were Albert Walker & Sarah Deakin who married on the 23rd December 1905 at The Parish Church Manchester - it has written that they resided at 27 Broughton Street at time of Marriage - is this a more definative clue perhaps??

*Important to note regarding the Walker's & the Deakin's - two brothers [Albert & Thomas Walker] married two sisters [Sarah & Jane Ann Deakin] & so it gets confusing within the FREEBMD births.

Cheers - Steve.

Well there's no Sarah Walker born in Chorlton district around then.

What were her parents' names and when did they marry?

Hi Roy :-)

The 1911 census has written she was 4 years of age.

On her death certificate dated 28th April 1970 her son-in-law wrote her birth date as 8th December 1906. I have verified the date as being 8th December [Mums old diary from memory] and more than sure it was 1906 she was born in as it is written....I haven't had any reason to doubt until now. Mistakes do happen I know - the 1906 or 1907 entries I think are the most likely of suspects.

Big thankyou for your thoughts Roy - I will have a good ponder about everyone comments and then make my decision.

Cheers - Steve.

Steve how sure are you about her year of birth? what did the 1911 census say, as their are these births

Name: Sarah Jane Walker
Year of Registration: 1903
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
District: Chorlton
County: Lancashire
Volume: 8c
Page: 786

Name: Sarah Walker
Year of Registration: 1901
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Chorlton
County: Lancashire
Volume: 8c
Page: 811

If you got the year of birth from a death cert Who registered the death? as info on a death cert is only as good as the knowledge of the informant/person who is registering the death

Hi All :-)

Thankyou all for your quick responces and suggestions.

*Embarrased* - Rose you made me realise I have a copy of the 1911 census for the Walkers - I'd forget my head if it wasn't screwed on [der] ;-)

They lived at 18 Whitehall Street Didsbury.
Sarah Walker written she was born Didsbury Lancashire.

Does the Address for the Walkers in the 1911 Census give anyone a more certain idea of which one may be the one [?] - neither say Chorlton or Didsbury in there description of the area. I am leaning towards the March Q 1907 entry as Pork Pie noted that there is a 6 week window to register - or just take a punt expense either way??

Cheers - Steve.

Didsbury comes under Chorlton.

Have you located her in 1911? You can get her place of birth from that.

You have 6 weeks to register a birth so finding a birth in the next quarter is not unusual,

eg, born 20th november 1888 could be found on march quarter 1889

Hi All :-)

I am in the process of ordering my Grandmothers birth certificate for the year 1906. Fact: Her name was Sarah Walker born in Manchester England her birth date is 8th December 1906 - I have been under the impression that she may have been born in Didsbury.

I have found the below entries on FREEBMD one for 1906 Dec Q and the other for 1907 March Q....the reason why I am confused is that as far as I am aware Sarah did not have a middle name - so I am confused with the middle name of Jane in the first entry...but it is for the December Quarter of the correct year.

Second entry for the March Qaurter of 1907 has me thinking that maybe as she was born towards the end of the year that her birth wasn't registered until the March Q instead of being in the year she was born??

It gets a little confusing with the changing of the boundaries over the years. Hope this makes sense?? - Any suggestions-Thoughts??

Thanks in Advance.

Steve.
