I am trying to find the marriage of my gt uncle .I have found a Joseph Shelton in 1888 6b769,but there are two ladies also who got married then and they all have 6b769 no. How do I know which is he one he married?

Look for him in the 1891 census and see what his wife's name is (unless both women on the page of the marriage reference have the same first name).

You could just buy the marriage certificate - you only need to use his name.
