A marriage entry can only be corrected by a note in the margin. A fresh registration cannot take place as the registration is all about the information given at the time of the marriage. (A fresh registration can sometimes happen with births and deaths on the authority of the Registrar General)

Just thought I would pass on a personal experience with marriage certificates.
My Father and Mother married in 1943. His birth name was George. At the time of marriage he was absent without leave from the army. He couldn't use his own name so he used his brother William's!
Their marriage certificate therefore was in the name of William.
When we were teenagers they told us what had happened and went to get things sorted. The point is that they were not allowed a new certfifcate they just had to swear a statutory declaration which was added to the margin of the old one!
