But this came up beside the person I was researching at the time, on a list which also had names against entries like Immigration and Ship arrival

Sounds like old telephone or address directories.

You can access some on Ancestry and one of the universities has some on a website - something like: historicaldirectories.

As I was researching I came upon UK City and County Directories/ Buckinghamshire.

Can anyone tell me anything about this? Could a name appear in these Directories regarding a divorce?
